Funamo Instructions

(The instructions for Funamo Parental Control also apply to Funamo Accountability)





Funamo Easy-Setup Mode with Funamo Safe Browser (Recommended):


In Easy-Setup mode, you can use Funamo Safe Browser to avoid setting proxies manually. It also works regardless which network you are on. After Funamo Safe Browser is working on your device, Please enable "Block other browsers" under Account settings to automatically block all other browsers except for Funamo Safe Browser .


 
  1. Download and install Funamo Parental Control
  2. Download and install Funamo Safe Browser
  3. Start Funamo Parental Control, sign up and follow the setup wizard to register your device with Funamo server (Note: Initial sync does take some time to upload information to the server particularly if you have many apps installed or many contacts stored on your device. It is also slower if you are on a 3G mobile network than on a WiFi network. If you have problem with it, please try to sync again and if necessary you can click "Start Over" button to re-register your device.)
  4. Configure the settings for Internet filtering, Protected apps, Time-limited apps and Device control setup. Please check "Block other browsers" under Account settings to automatically block all other browsers except for Funamo Safe Browser.
  5. Click Start Funamo to enable Funamo parental protection
 

 


Funamo Advanced Mode with manual proxy settings:


If you would like to use the default browser or third party browsers such as Chrome, Dolphin and Skyfire (Opera and Firefox Mobile browsers do not use the system proxy and you need to set up the proxy within the browser. See FAQ for more info), you can manually setup network proxies at the system level. Please note that you would need to set proxy for each network connection separately. The setup process for system proxies differs based on the device models, Android versions and carriers.


 
  1. Download and install Funamo Parental Control
  2. Start Funamo Parental Control, sign up and follow the setup wizard to register your device with Funamo server (Note: Initial sync does take some time to upload information to the server particularly if you have many apps installed or many contacts stored on your device. It is also slower if you are on a 3G mobile network than on a WiFi network. If you have problem with it, please try to sync again and if necessary you can click "Start Over" button to re-register your device.)
  3. Configure the settings for Internet filtering, Protected apps, Time-limited apps and Device control setup.
  4. Set WiFi and mobile network proxy to Host: 127.0.0.1 and Port: 8998 following instructions below.
  5. Click Start Funamo to enable Funamo parental protection. If you already enalbed Funamo before setting proxy, please disable it first by click Stop Funamo, then click Start Funamo to enable it again.
 

 


How to set network proxies for Android 4.0 or later


If your device is Android 2.3 or earlier, please see instructions. (how to find out Android version)


Note: Not all devices support WiFi and mobile network proxy settings at the system level. If you device does not support system level proxies, please use Funamo Safe Browser with Easy-Setup mode.


WiFi Proxy Setup:


WiFi proxy setting procedure:
  1. Settings → Wireless and networks → Wi-Fi
  2. Long press the WiFi hotspot name, then select "Modify network"
  3. Check "Show advanced options"
  4. Select "Manual" for "Proxy settings"
  5. Enter 127.0.0.1 for "Proxy hostname"
  6. Enter 8998 for "Proxy port"
  7. Click Save



Mobile Proxy Setup:


Mobile proxy setting procedure (GSM phones, CDMA phones with 4G LTE):
  1. Settings → Wireless and network → (More... if present) → Mobile networks
  2. Click "Access Point Names"
  3. Click the APN you are using

If the APN is editable,
  1. Click on "Proxy" and enter 127.0.0.1
  2. Click on "Port" and enter 8998
  3. Click Menu and select Save
  4. Make sure that the newly created APN funamo is selected rather than the original APN

If the APN is not editable,
  1. Note down the values of each field in the APN settings
  2. Click back and click the + button (If the + button is disabled, the phone is locked and please contact your carrier to unlock your phone)
  3. Set Name to funamo
  4. Set Proxy to 127.0.0.1
  5. Set Port to 8998
  6. Set all other fields to the value you noted down
  7. Click Menu and select Save
  8. Make sure that the newly created APN funamo is selected rather than the original APN

Funamo Setup and Configuration Instructions

  1. Swipe down the notification bar at the top of the screen.
  2. Click "+ More"
  3. Click "Device"
  4. Check "Allow Installation of Applications" which is off by default
  5. Open web browser on Kindle Fire and go to this page. Click the links above to download both Funamo Parental Control and Funamo Safe Browser. You will see that download starts on the notification bar.
  6. Now install "ES File Explorer" from Amazon app store. Then open ES File Explorer, click Download folder and then click the Funamo Parental Control file you just downloaded. Click "Install" to install it. Click Funamo Safe Browser file in ES File Explorer, and click "Install" to install it.
  7. Start Funamo Parental Control, sign up and follow the setup wizard to register your device with Funamo server (Note: Initial sync does take some time to upload information to the server particularly if you have many apps installed or many contacts stored on your device. If you have problem with it, please try to sync again and if necessary you can click "Start Over" button to re-register your device.)

Funamo setup instructions for Nook HD and HD+:


The new Nook tablets are Android tablets produced by Samsung. Please refer to the Android section for installation and setup instructions. This section is for the legacy Nook HD and HD+ tablets.


Funamo Setup and Configuration Instructions

  1. Install Funamo Parental Control from Nook Shop on your Nook HD or HD+ tablet
  2. Start Funamo Parental Control, sign up and follow the setup wizard to register your device with Funamo server (Note: Initial sync does take some time to upload information to the server particularly if you have many apps installed or many contacts stored on your device. If you have problem with it, please try to sync again and if necessary you can click "Start Over" button to re-register your device.)
  3. Configure the settings for Internet filtering, Protected apps, and Time-limited apps.
  4. Click the Settings icon at the upper right corner. Then click "All Settings" and select "Wireless & Bluetooth". Click "Find other networks" and all WiFi hotspots will be listed. Long press the WiFi hotspot that you want to protect and select "Modify Network". Check "Show advanced options" and select "Manual" for Proxy settings. Enter 127.0.0.1 for Proxy hostname and 8998 for Proxy port.
  5. Start Funamo again, login and click Start Funamo to enable Funamo parental protection. If you already enalbed Funamo before setting proxy, please disable it first by click Stop Funamo, then click Start Funamo to enable it again.

Note: If you have set multiple profiles on the same device, please make sure that Funamo is assigned to ALL profiles. Otherwise, Funamo will be stopped when you switch to a profile which Funamo is not assigned to. You may long press the Funamo icon and select Assign to profiles option. Then make sure that all profiles are checked.

Uninstall Funamo Parental Control:


Funamo now has a built-in uninstall feature and please use it to easily uninstall Funamo.If you are using an older version of Funamo, please follow the instructions below.


If you are still in the evaluation period or you have a valid license:

 
  1. Log into Funamo on your device, then go to Account settings -> Unregister this device. By unregistering the device, you remove all data associated with this device from Funamo server. If you already uninstalled Funamo without unregistering the device, you can login online and remove the device under "Manage Device" tab.
  2. If you have enabled Funamo Device Admin, you need to de-activate it first. Please open Funamo app, then go to Account settings. Make sure that you uncheck both "Enable Device Admin" and "Protect Device Admin".
  3. If you used Advanced mode and manually set network proxies, please reset them to default value to ensure proper network connections after uninstalling Funamo Parental Control. See this FAQ for more details.
  4. Now you can uninstall Funamo as any other apps.

 

If your evaluation license has expired:

 
  1. Open Funamo app on your device and click "Unregister this device" button to remove all data associated with this device from Funamo server and deactivate Funamo device admin.
  2. Now you can uninstall Funamo as any other apps.
